Maureen Keating

Obituary Date: Tuesday, August 30, 2011
Maureen Keating, age 63, of Otto, North Carolina died August 30, 2011. She is survived by her loving husband Brooks Franklin; her stepchildren Emerson, Retta and Leah Franklin; her mother Ruth Keating; her sisters Karen Hueston, Katy Lang, Molly Keating, and her brother Mike Keating. She was preceded in death by her father Richard Keating.

Maureen was born in Wilmington, Delaware but lived most of her adult life in Atlanta, Georgia. She attended Saint Mary's Dominican College in New Orleans and earned diplomas in Medical Assisting from Georgia Institute for Medical Assisting and Atlanta Technical College. Most recently, she spent her days managing Leah Lake Farm, volunteering for Meals on Wheels, leading hikes for Georgia Forest Watch, and entertaining family and friends with her famous tomato pies. As an organ donor, Maureen continued her legacy of selfless giving by donating her liver and her corneas. She lived a life full of grace and love, and she will be sorely missed by family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Sustainable Mountain Living Communities 501(c)(3), 6398 Highway 76 West, Clayton, GA 30525; and Rabun County Senior Center's Meals on Wheels, 2832 Old 441 South in Tiger, GA.

A memorial service will be held at Leah Lake Farm in Otto, NC at 2:30pm on Monday, September 5th.
