Marguerite Lucile Cunningham Eaton

Marguerite Lucile Cunningham Eaton died Thursday, September 29, 2011 at Lanier Village Estates; Gainesville, GA. Born in Mobile, Alabama, September 8, 1923, Lucile attended the Visitation Academy in Mobile and graduated from Mobile's Murphy High School. At Murphy High School she met her husband of almost 68 years, J Mack Eaton.

She graduated from the Gradwohl School of Laboratory Technique in St. Louis, Missouri, and during World War II worked as a laboratory technician at Remington Arms Medical Services in Bridgeport, Connecticut and at the Segrest Diagnostic Clinic in Mobile. She furthered her education at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, GA.

With her husband she raised and educated three daughters, actively and happily involved in their schooling and their sports. Primarily and foremost, she was a wife, mother, and homemaker, and she filled the roles with legendary skills as cook, hostess, and her family's social conscience.

She served as a volunteer at St. Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta, at the St. Croix Yacht Club Ships Store in the USVI, and at St. Philip's Thrift Shop in Brevard, NC.

After her husband's retirement and after living in Atlanta for more than thirty years, she lived for seven years in St. Croix, USVI, eight years in Brevard, NC, and since 2005 lived at Lanier Village Estates in Gainesville, Ga.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2010. She is survived by three daughters, Marilyn Bloch of Montgomery, Al; Jane Haddow of Murphy, NC; and Ellen Eaton of Canton, Ga; grandchildren John Bloch and Mary Middleton of Montgomery; and great-grandchildren Elizabeth and Sarah Middleton, and Addison and Katherine Bloch.

A lifelong Episcopalian, Lucile was a member of Grace Church, Gainesville.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Lucile Eaton Scholarship Fund for LVE Caregivers or to Grace Episcopal Church.

Private burial services will be held at the Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, GA October 6, 2011 with the Rev. Doug Dailey officiating.
