Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 1, 2011, at Hopewell Baptist Church for Mrs. Kay Davidson Barrett, 60, of Gillsville, who passed away Saturday, October 29, 2011 at Emory University Hospital following a brief illness. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The Rev. Dr. Robby Foster and Rev. Dr. Kent Barrett will officiate. Interment will be in Hillside Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Barrett will lie in state at Hopewell Baptist Church from 5:00 p.m. Tuesday until the service hour.
A lifelong resident of Hall County, she was the daughter of the late Harley and Kate Poole Davidson. She was a graduate of Brenau University with a degree in education. She taught 32 years in Hall County at Brookton Elementary, Lula Elementary and East Hall Middle School before retiring.
Kay had many interests including her love for East Hall Basketball, where she was scorekeeper for 28 years. However, her passion was gospel music. Her love for gospel music carried over to her daughter who began the gospel group CS&K, where Kay was manager since their beginning in 2003.
She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Dr. Kenneth Barrett of Gillsville; son, Kirk Barrett of Gillsville; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Kent and Heather Barrett of Gillsville; daughter, Katie Barrett of Gillsville; grandchildren, Will Barrett, Walker Barrett and Hallie Barrett; sister and brother-in-law, Denise and Bradley Clark of Gillsville; mother-in-law, Faye Barrett of Gainesville; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Pat and Ronnie Edwards of Gainesville; brother-in- law and sister- in- law, Leon and Pam Barrett of Gillsville, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University, Development Office, 1762 Clifton Rd. Suite 1400, Atlanta GA 30322 in memory of Kay Barrett.
