John Floyd Whitmire

Evans Funeral Home announces the death of Mr. John Floyd Whitmire, age 97, of Commerce, formerly of the Holly Springs Community, passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2011. Mr. Whitmire was born in Maysville, a son to the late Leander Fitzsailand Whitmire and the late Ola Clarinda Catlett Whitmire. Mr. Whitmire was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a Sergeant in WWII. Mr. Whitmire was in Restaurant Management and a member of Cave Springs Baptist Church. Mr. Whitmire was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Inez Horton Whitmire, his brothers and sisters, Maude, Ethel, Carl, Otis, Mildred, Hugh Lee, Paul, Nell, Jack, Laura, Bruce, Robert and Mary.

Mr. Whitmire is survived by his nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at 11am in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Home with Rev. Chad Rising and Mr. Don Lord officiating. The burial will follow in the Jackson Memorial Park with John Whitmire, Jeff Whitmire, Wendell Whitmire, Rob Edwards and Bryson Quinn honored as pallbearers. The visitation will be held on Monday evening from 5-8pm at the funeral home.
