Homer Henson

Homer Henson, 85, of Dawsonville passed away Saturday February 11, 2012 at Northside Forsyth Hospital following a sudden illness.

Born December 18, 1926 in Polk County, Tennessee to the late Carl and Ollie Henson, starting at the age of 16 he worked his way around much of the United States having many adventures until he married his late wife, Geneva on July 11, 1947. Mr. Henson moved from Jackson, SC to Dawson County in 1954 where he resided until 2001 when he moved to Fannin County and then returned to Dawson County in 2011. He retired from Ironworkers Local # 387 after over 25 years of service and was a member of Sweet Gum Lodge # 542 F & AM. Homer set a fine example of what it means to work hard and was much beloved by his grandchildren who he spoiled with all sort of homemade toys and games. The boys in particular were crazy about him and they loved to play pranks of their Papa Homer and tinker with him on his endless projects. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Ruby Thurmond, Jessie Henson; and brothers, Edgar Henson, Alvin Henson, Clyde Henson, Fred Henson and W. C. "Cork" Henson.

Surviving are his children, Lannie and Deborah Henson, Dawsonville, Mike and Pam Henson, Dawsonville, Dena and Richard Hamby, Milledgeville; sister, Stella Ware, Jasper; nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and a number of other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday February 14, 2012 at 11 o'clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Harvey Ware will officiate. Interment will follow in Moss Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends after 6:30 p.m. Sunday and all day Monday at the funeral home.
