Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday February 16, 2012 at Gillsville Baptist Church for Mr. Harold Hewell, of Gillsville. Rev. Bill Calhoun and Rev. Bradley Elliott will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Interment will be in Gillsville Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Hewell will lie in state at the church from 1:30 p.m. until the funeral hour.
Born on May 30, 1926, in Lanford, SC, he was the son of the late Maryland and Ada Adams Hewell. Mr. Hewell was a Veteran of World War II where he served proudly in the U.S. Navy. He was operator of Hewell's Pottery in Gillsville from 1940 until 1991. However after retiring he still continued to come into the business daily until the end as pottery was in his blood.
Mr. Hewell was a loving Husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Harold is survived by his wife of 62 years, Grace Nell Wilson Hewell of Gillsville; son and daughter-in-law, Chester and Sandra Hewell of Gillsville; grandson and wife, Matthew and Amanda Hewell; grandson, Nathaniel Hewell; great grandson, Eli Hewell great granddaughter, Susannah Hewell all of Gillsville; sister, Grace Hewell Johnson of Chattanooga, TN and special friend B.R. Holcomb of Gillsville.
