Leland Green Baggett, Jr

Obituary Date: Tuesday, February 21, 2012
After many years of Sunday mornings spent teaching about his Lord and Savior, Leland Green Baggett, Jr. left us at sunrise on Sunday, February 19, to go meet Jesus in person. Leland, age 85, went to Heaven with his family by his bedside. His life was devoted to four great purposes: seeking God, loving others, living life with intention, and enjoying it to its fullest. Whether you knew him as a school bus driver, a flower deliverer, a preacher, a counselor, a treasured friend, as husband, father, or "Gramps," you knew him to be both wholly devoted and attentive to you, and to these four purposes. For all of us who knew and loved him, his physical presence, influence, and support will be deeply missed. Even so, all that he gave us throughout his lifetime will be forever a part of who we are and how we go on to live the rest of our lives without him.

Leland is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Anne Irvine Baggett, Braselton, GA; daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine and John McGuigan, Charlotte, NC, Susan and Bill Hughes, Greensboro, NC and Amy and Kurt Hansen, Braselton, GA; son, Leland G. "Chip" Baggett, III and Natalie Frost, Asheville, NC; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Rev. Baggett was born September 14, 1926 in Atlanta, GA. He was a 1942 graduate of North Fulton High School in Atlanta, GA, attended Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN and a 1946 graduate of the University of Georgia in Athens, GA where he received his Bachelor's Degree. He was a World War II Navy Veteran and a member of the American Legion Post in Gainesville, GA. He was a retired Hall County School Bus Driver. He was Pastor of Wellspring Fellowship Church in Chestnut Mountain, GA.

Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Chicopee Baptist Church in Gainesville, GA with Rev. Phil Carpenter officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
