Hattie Grace Clark

Obituary Date: Tuesday, May 15, 2012
Hattie Grace (Garrett) Clark age 86 of Gainesville, Georgia left her earthly home Tuesday May 15, 2012 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center, from complications from a major stroke.

Hattie was born in Hall County, on February 21, 1926 to the late Calvin and Rentie (Crow) Garrett and grew up with her siblings Amos, Laura Mae, Arthur, Murray, Howard, Billy, and Maurice. On March 18, 1949, she married Dean Clark, the love of her life, and was married to him for 59 years until his passing in 2008. Her pleasure in life was being a homemaker and a helpmate to Dean and her family. Hattie was fiercely independent and was a go-getter who stayed busy from morning till night.

Hattie loved camping, hunting, fishing, and visiting Myrtle Beach, S.C., with her husband Dean. She also loved to cook, and I mean good-ol' southern cooking. She and Dean made the best fried fish and hushpuppies in all the land. In fact, just two weeks ago, Hattie told the story of how she and Dean would make their own hushpuppies to take with them to Captain D's to eat with their fish dinners. And if you were sick or down, you could expect Hattie at your doorstep with one of her delicious home-cooked meals. They loved spending time at their lake cabin with their families. Although she lived a very simple and frugal life, Hattie was always very generous to others.

Hattie retired from Sears in Gainesville after working there for many years. In her free time, she enjoyed sewing pillows and blankets, putting puzzles together, and playing dominoes- and not just any dominoes- they had to be Double 15 Dominoes. One of her favorite ways to spend her time was by going to Meeting with her friends to study God's word. She was very pleased that she had attended Convention every year.

Hattie is survived by her brothers and sisters in law, Arthur and Vicki Garrett, Murray and Bebe Garrett, Maurice and Juanita Garrett, and Billy Garrett. Brother in law, Ray Wruk, sisters in law and husbands, Vivian and John Steadman, and Lillian and Nathaniel McQueen, and many nieces and nephews. Hattie is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dean, sister, Laura Mae Wruk, brothers, Amos and Howard, and nephew, Tim Wruk.

Hattie's going-home service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Friday May 18, 2012 at Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel with Dennis Kinnan and Linda Woollum officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday May 17, 2012 at the funeral home.

Heartfelt thanks to Hattie's family; her many friends from meeting; her neighbors from Athens Highway, Bently Park, and Summers Landing; Northeast Georgia Medical Center; and Hospice for the visits, calls, prayers, concerns, and love shown to Hattie. She will be greatly missed.
