Roy P. Norrell

Roy P. Norrell, age 70, of Dahlonega, GA passed away Wednesday May 16, 2012 at his home.

Roy was a native and lifelong resident of Lumpkin County. He was a retired building contractor and was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Lumpkin County. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Roy loved people. He never met a stranger and loved to talk to anyone who would listen to him. He loved his family and friends, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Roy was the son of the late Lewis Norrell and Cindy Woody Norrell and was also preceded in death by brothers, James Norrell, Charles Norrell, and Jewell Norrell.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Hazel Collins Norrell, Dahlonega, GA; daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Sid Pardue, Cleveland, GA, Michelle Abercrombie, Dahlonega, GA, Garilynn "Missy" Norrell, Dahlonega, GA; Melissa "Porky" and Shane Hardin, Dahlonega, GA; sister, Kathleen Norrell, Dahlonega, GA; brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Barbara Norrell, Dahlonega, GA; sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws, Jessie Lee Grizzle, Bonnell and Sam Davis, Betty and L.J. Jarrard, Ann and Bill Lawson, C.F. and Geraldine Collins, Mildred Norrell; special sister-in-law, Kathy Royster; grandchildren, Kayla Allison and her husband Michael, Cody Shelnut, Justin Pardue, Sydney Pardue, Joshua Abercrombie, Jordan Abercrombie, Andrea Dockery McMeans and her husband Chris, Hailey Hardin, and Jacob Hardin; great-grandchildren, Avery Allison, Carter McMeans, and McKenzie McMeans. Numerous other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 PM Saturday May 19, 2012 at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega.

Rev. Chris Gilbert and Rev. Lyman Caldwell will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Bethlehem/Jones Chapel Cemetery in Lumpkin County with military honors provided by the Veterans Alliance Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends at Banister Funeral Home in Dahlonega on Thursday from 6 PM until 9 PM, all day on Friday, and on Saturday until the time of service.
