George Bryant Roberts

Mr. George Bryant Roberts, age 80, of Clermont, Georgia, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2012 at Summers Landing Assisted Living facility in Gainesville.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at Riverbend Baptist Church with interment to follow in Alta Vista Cemetery. Reverend Bucky Kennedy, Reverend Matt Wethington and Reverend Maxey Ladd will officiate. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 pm and 5 to 8 pm Monday, May 21, 2012 at the funeral home.


George was born in Habersham County on December 4, 1931 and was the son of the late James Roberts and Beatrice (Church) Roberts. He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He then attended Truett McConnell College and also the University of Georgia. He was a true Bulldog!


George was a retired Poultry Flock Supervisor at Fieldale Farms of Baldwin, GA. He was a very active member of Riverbend Baptist Church until his declining health no longer permitted him to serve. He served as a deacon, deacon emeritus, Sunday School Secretary, Choir member and chairperson of the Building Committee for the New Sanctuary. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Richard Bryant Roberts; sister, Irene (Colie) Humphries; brothers and sister-in-law, Fred (Faye) Roberts; Otis (Esta Mae) Roberts; R.B. (Wallace) Roberts; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Richard and Avie Waldrep.


George is survived by his loving wife, "of 53 years", Virginia Roberts; son, Joey Roberts of Gainesville; sister and brother-in-law, Lucille (Jay) Carson of Clarkesville; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Alae Risse and Bob Thomas of Cornelia; brother-in-law, Gary Waldrep of Grand Prairie, TX; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
