Edis Ellis

Mrs. Edis Evelyn Ellis, age 86, of Murrayville, GA, passed away Monday, June 11, 2012, at her home after a long illness.

Mrs. Ellis was a native and lifelong resident of Lumpkin County. She was a member of Philippi Baptist Church in Lumpkin County.

Mrs. Ellis worked for a number of years with growing chickens at home with her beloved husband, Andrew. Ms. Ellis worked for 15 or more years with Pine Tree in Dahlonega. She also worked for 10 years with Barrow Manufacturing in the Coppermine area.

Mrs. Ellis took care of her beloved husband, Andrew at home for years before his passing and then continued to be a caregiver to several people of Lumpkin County and the surrounding area until about the age of 82. At that time, it became necessary for her to stay home and take care of herself.

Her beloved smile and willingness to help another person will be truly missed. She was the beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother to many and one that can't be replaced.

Edis was the daughter of the late Luther and Bessie Christy Anderson and was also preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Ellis; son, Richard Thomas; brothers and sisters, Paul Anderson, Estelle Grindle, Grady Anderson, Lela Mae Hatfield, Louis Dean Anderson, and Kenneth Burt Anderson; granddaughter, Erin Cantrell; and great-granddaughter, Brittany Jones.

She is survived by her children, Joan and J.W. Davis, Johnny and Brenda Ellis; daughter-in-law, Sylvia Thomas; brothers and sisters, Sonnie Kay Couch, Ray Gene and Morene Anderson; sister-in-law, Pauline Anderson; grandchildren, Michael and Sonya Davis, Scott and Tami Davis, Ricky and Jennifer Thomas, Johnny and Joni Ellis, Jody and Cheri Ellis, Justin and Misty Ellis, Vince McIntyre, Sonya and Ryan Suggs; great-grandchildren, Noelle Simmons, Sarah Davis, Jeremiah Allen & Lillie Davis, Tyler and Meaghan Thomas, Morgan and McKenzie Ellis, Will, Tyler, and Andrew Ellis, Emily, Kayanna, and Kevin Ellis, Martin and Taylor Suggs; great-great-granddaughter, Aubrey Nicole Brown. Numerous other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ellis are scheduled for 2 PM Thursday, June 14, 2012, at the Philippi Baptist Church in Lumpkin County.

Rev. Lyman Caldwell and Rev. Jason Fuller will officiate.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Ellis will lay in state at the church on Thursday from 1:30 PM until 2 PM.

The family will receive friends at Banister Funeral Home in Dahlonega on Tuesday and Wednesday from 6 PM until 9 PM.
