Joseph Bertie "Joey" Smith

Mr. Joseph Bertie "Joey" Smith, 56 of Demorest passed away on Sunday, July 1 at the Habersham Medical Center following an extended illness.

Mr. Smith was born in Stephens County on Nov. 5, 1955. He was a son of Joseph Travis Smith of Cleveland, Georgia and the late Frances Emmaline Savage Smith. Mr. Smith was a logger by trade with Soque Tree Service, a great father, grandfather, loved spending time outdoors, and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors in addition to his father include: sons, Casey Daniel Smith, Baldwin, GA; Joseph Walter Smith, Eastanollee, GA; daughter, Jessica Nicole Smith, Toccoa, GA; brothers, Ira Smith, Rev. Ralph Smith, both of Baldwin, GA; Marvin Smith, James Smith, both of Demorest, GA; sister, Janet Carol Whitfield, Demorest, GA; 5 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
