Cecil Galagina Summerour

Obituary Date: Sunday, July 8, 2012
Cecil Galagina Summerour, 77, of Dawsonville passed away Sunday July 8, 2012 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a sudden illness.

Born April 6, 1935 to the late Homer and Gertie Summerour, he lived most of his life in Dawson County. Mr. Summerour owned and operated Cherokee Tubing & Kayak. Cecil was very proud of his Cherokee Indian heritage and was extremely active in the Cherokee Nation. A talented artist and craftsman, he designed the first official flag of the Cherokee Nation. He possessed a passion for the history and genealogy of Dawson County and the surrounding areas. He was widely known for his ability to cook and especially for his boiled peanuts. Cecil was also preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Sanford; and brothers, William Summerour and Marcus Summerour.

Surviving are his wife, Carol Summerour, Dawsonville; children, Rhonda Burma Bridges, Dawsonville, Dana Summerour, Dawsonville, Felecia and Cecil Padgett, Dawsonville; Laura Spain, Gainesville, Jay Thompson, Gainesville, Michael Thompson, Gainesville; sisters, Martha Jo Rush, Dolores Summerour, Mattie Summerour; 5 grandchildren and a number of other relatives.

Memorial services will be held Saturday July 14, 2012 at 11 o'clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Mike Thomas will officiate.

The family will receive friends Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
