Donald R. Ricks

Donald R. Ricks, 80, of Cumming, GA died on July 19, 2012 at Embracing Hospice House after a long struggle with Parkinson's and dementia.

He was born in Soperton, GA on May 27, 1932 to the late Reva and Pierce Ricks. He was also preceded in death by his son, Michael Pierce Ricks in 1956 and his brothers, Kenneth and Tommy Ricks.

Don graduated from Soperton High School in 1949 as valedictorian of his class. He served in the Air Force as a Staff Sgt during the Korean Conflict. Following his service, he attended Georgia State College and Woodrow Wilson Law School, graduating with honors. Don retired from his practice of 50 years as a CPA and tax attorney. He loved reading, gardening and enjoyed playing classical music.

As a friend he was true and constant. As a husband, father and grandfather his heart overflowed with loved. As a Christian he loved and honored God with a life of service to his fellow man.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Winona Drummond Ricks of Cumming, GA; son, Phillip (Sharon) Ricks of Cumming, GA; much-loved grandsons, Andrew and Austin; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, July 22, 2012 in the chapel of McDonald and Son Funeral Home. Interment will be 1:00 PM Monday, July 23rd at the Ricks Family Cemetery in Soperton, GA. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 3:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home.
