Raymond Evans

Obituary Date: Saturday, September 8, 2012
Raymond Evans, 70, died peacefully in his sleep Saturday morning, September 8th, after an extended illness from diabetes & Alzheimer's.

He was the son of the late Daniel M. (Bud) and Julia Hendrix Evans. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Robbie E. Jackson, Mary E. Lewallen & Sara E. McCollum & brothers, Milton & Verner Evans.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Joanne Jordan Evans; sons Greg & Cynthia; Dr. Danny Evans & Amber; beloved grandchildren Alex, Gracie, Zoe, Wesley, Hailey & James & special Godchild Jamie MacDonnell. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces & nephews.

Raymond served as a Deacon at Woodlawn Baptist Church & West Hall Baptist where he was also Deacon Chairman. He loved serving his assigned Deacon families.

During past years he has sung in the church choir, been an R.A. leader & also an enthusiastic Cub Scout & Boy Scout leader. He loved to help the Scouts build & race Pinewood Derby cars. Raymond also loved shooting & entered & won many matches.

Raymond proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 6 years.

He retired from the Ga. Department of Corrections where he was Chief Probation Officer for the Northeast Judicial Circuit for a number of years & Northern Region Manager for the Training Division. He was chosen Chief Probation Officer of the Year in 1984.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Memorial Park Funeral Home with burial to follow at Memorial Park. Rev. Bill Compton & Dr. Danny Evans will officiate.

The family will receive friends Monday night from 6-9.
