Paul RIP Wier

Evans Funeral Home announces the death of Mr. Luther Paul " RIP" Wier, 88, of Jefferson, Ga., who passed away Thursday January 3, 2013 at Athens Regional Medical Center, Athens, Ga., after a brief illness, surrounded by his family.

Paul "RIP" was born in Jackson County, Jefferson, Ga., a son of Henry "T.C." and Nina Eckles Wier.

Mr. Wier was a graduate of Martin Institute, Jefferson, Class of 1942, Mr. Wier worked on the family farm with his father until 1955. Mr. Wier worked at Jefferson Mill until he retired in 1986. Since his retirement, Mr. Wier faithfully attended the Jackson County Senior Citizen Center in Jefferson, Ga.

Paul was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, where he served as Sunday School Superintendant and various other offices. Mr. Wier was a member of the Unity Lodge #36 where he served as Worshipful Master. He received his 50th year Masonic award. The Masonic Lodge will be take part in the committal service.

Mr. Wier was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Alfred H. Wier, Richmond , California, sister, Irene Howington, Jefferson, Ga., Brother in Law, William "Bill" Howington, Jefferson, Ga., Lewis Harper, Decatur, Ga.

Survivors include his brother, Gilbert L. Wier (Martha Sue) Jefferson, Ga., Sisters, Lavenia W. Hall, (Tile O.) Jefferson, Ga., Ellie W. Harper, Decatur, Ga. Carolyn W. Thurmond (Claudius D.) Jefferson, Ga., and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and other friends.



Funeral services will be Sunday January 6, 2013 at 2:00P.M. at Bethany United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike McLemore and Rev. Jessie Mealor officiating. Interment will be in Bethany Methodist Church Cemetery with his nephews honored as pallbearers, William L. Howington, Danny Wier, David Wier, Dwight Wier, Phil Thurmond, Doug Thurmond, Gene Harper, and Wayne Wier. The family will receive friends Saturday January 5, 2013 at the funeral home from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
