Carol Jean Sampson Pokorny

Obituary Date: Friday, January 11, 2013
The angels rejoiced on Friday, January 11, 2013 as Carol Jean Sampson Pokorny reunited with her loving husband of 63 years Robert in the presence of Almighty God. Born in 1926 to Norma Hantak Sampson and Albert Lewis Sampson in Cleveland, OH, she grew up in Cleveland, OH and Watertown, NY, a proud Mayflower descendant through her father.

She left high school in her senior year to hitch hike to California where she worked in a defense plant during WW II. She moved back to New York and married George Denny and had her first child Albert. After their divorce she moved to Rock Creek, OH where she met Robert while working at Reliance Electric of Ashtabula, OH. They had 3 children Linda Luce of Gainesville, GA, Pamela Parrish of Tucson, AZ and Robert William Pokorny of Tucson, AZ. They have 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Carol gave her life to Jesus in 1970 and has been active in Plymouth Methodist Church of Ashtabula and Blackshear Place Baptist of Flowery Branch, Georgia. She loved her Bible Study, crocheting, tole painting, making dolls, researching the family geneology and collecting anything lighthouse, covered bridge or salt dips.

By her request, there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at 11:00 AM in Memorial Park Cemetery with the Reverend Jason Weaver officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Blackshear Place Baptist Church or Hospice of Northeast Georgia.

She will be greatly missed.
