Reverend Lew E. Ayres

Reverend Lew E. Ayres, age 83, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, January 20, 2013 at his residence under the care of hospice.


A Memorial Service will be held at a later date at Gainesville First United Methodist Church in Gainesville.

Rev. Ayres was a retired pastor from the South Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church. He attended Gainesville First United Methodist Church and was an active member of the Emanuel Sunday School Class. He loved his church family. Rev. Ayres also retired from the United States Air Force, where he served for 20 years. He had a very active and full life and will be missed by all who loved him.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Rosemary, a son Mike and a daughter Sherri, and their spouses. He is also survived by a granddaughter, Madison Rose, who was his pride and joy. Rev. Ayres was from a large family and has five surviving brothers and their spouses, Dave, Jon, Vic, Paul and Vaughn. He also has many nephews and nieces. He loved all of his family deeply and cherished the times they spent together.
