Mr. Joseph William Palmer Jr., age 84, of Dahlonega, GA, passed away Monday, January 21, 2013.
Joe was born and raised in Gainesville, GA, and spent a number of years in Winder, GA. He was a Corporal in the U.S. Army, and a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. Before he became an Aircraft Mechanic for the U.S. Army National Guard, he was employed by the Center for Disease Control where he worked as a Biological Laboratory Technician. Mr. Palmer was a Master Mason, as well as a lay minister that mentored Bible study to many. He was a member of the Master Gardeners of Dahlonega and of the Methodist Faith. Joe was married for 48 years to his loving wife, Clara, and was a wonderful father to his daughters, Mary Alice and Cathy.
Joe was the son of the late Joseph W. Palmer Sr. and Emma Grindle Palmer, and was preceded in death by his son, Cary T. Palmer, and sister, Loma Palmer Taylor.
He is survived by his wife, Clara Crawford Palmer; daughters, Mary Alice Sanders, Oakwood, GA, and Cathy Sanders, Atlanta, GA; brother and sister-in-law, James and Kathryn Palmer; Clermont, GA; and nephews, Mark and Harry Palmer; grandson, Missle Technician Master Chief T. Alan Propes II, USN, his wife, Christine, and great granddaughter, Alexandra Propes of Jacksonville, FL.
Funeral services for Joe are scheduled for 2:00 PM Saturday, January 26, 2013 at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega, GA.
The family will receive friends from 12 PM until 2 PM on the day of service.
