Marion Owens Southers

Marion Owens Southers, age 76 of Gainesville, passed away at her residence following an extended illness.


Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, February 1, 2013 at 2:00 PM at New Haven Congregational Holiness Church with Reverend Wayne Hicks officiating. Interment will follow in Antioch Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 31, 2013 from 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-9:00 PM at the funeral home.


Mrs. Southers was born April 3, 1936 in Commerce, GA to the late Arthur Webster Owens and the late Susan Emily Presley Owens. She was a member of New Haven Church and was a 1954 graduate of Lula High School. She also graduated from Perry Business School in 1955 and worked for the Georgia Department of Labor for 30 years. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Harold Owens.


Mrs. Southers is survived by her niece, Ann Simmons of Gainesville; nephew, Ron Owens of Palm City, FL; great-niece, Anita Deraney of Hoschton; great-nephew, Donny Hulsey of Braselton; great-niece, Shelly Upshaw of Buford; great-nephew, Ryan Owens of Palm City, FL; 6 great-great nephews; 1 great-great-great nephew; cousins, Billy and Mary Sue Meeks and numerous special cousins.
