Joseph Lil Brown, age 88, of Lawrenceville, GA died on February 4, 2013.
He was born June 18, 1924 in Concord, KY. He was preceded in death by his parents Jacob and Daisy Brown, brothers, Patrick Brown, Chuck Brown and sister, Mary Ruth Overman. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Margaret Brown; four children, Deborah and David Sittler, Kathleen Sowers, Joanne Hogan Brink and Michael Brown and Don Baum; and seven grandchildren, Melissa Sittler, Evan Sittler, Lauren, Sittler, Justin Sowers, Jonathan Sowers, Bridget Hogan Cigarroa and James Hogan.
Joe was raised and educated in Dayton, KY. He attended St. Anthony Catholic School and graduated from Dayton High School. He served in the U. S. Navy South Pacific 7th Fleet during WWII. After the war, Joe graduated from Xavier University, Cincinnati, OH with a B.S. degree in Physics. He was employed by I.B.M. and retired after 35 years. He held key positions as Director of Engineering Labs in Poughkeepsie, NY, Kingston, NY, and Manassas, VA. He also worked for IBM's Federal Systems Division, consulting for the Defense Dept. Upon retirement, he consulted for the Contact Group. A long time member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Buford, GA. Joe was a Eucharistic Minister under the guidance of Father Jimmy Adams. Joe and Margaret joined St. Lawrence Catholic Church after Prince of Peace relocated.
Viewing will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 pm Thursday at Flanigan Funeral Home, 4400 S. Lee Street, Buford, GA 30518.
The funeral mass will be at 11:00 am Friday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 319 Grayson Highway, Lawrenceville, GA 30045. Burial, following the mass, will be at Broadlawn Memorial Gardens, 5979 New Bethany Road, Buford, GA 30518.
