Edward Milam Ayers

Evans Funeral Home announces the death of Mr. Edward Milam Ayers, age 88, of Jefferson, who passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2013.

Mr. Ayers was born in Atlanta, GA, a son to the late A. Dewey Ayers and the late Inez Vandiver Ayers. Mr. Ayers was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the Jefferson American Legion Post 56. Mr. Ayers retired from Lockheed in Marietta and later was a Parts Driver for Jackson County. Mr. Ayers was preceded in death by his first wife, Pearl W. Ayers.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Geneva Ayers, Jefferson, sons and daughter in laws, Edward M. and Laura Ayers Jr., Flowery Branch, John and Carmen Ayers, Jefferson, step-son, Bill White, Jefferson, sisters, Terice Toney, Jacqueline Burkholter, both of Helen, Jeannette Johnson, Valdosta, Myra Pace, Clarkesville, brothers, Jack Ayers, Stone Mountain, Norman Ayers, Cleveland, grandchildren, Russ, Andy, Anna, Cheryl, Lisa, Glenn, Wendy, Mike, Greg, DeeDee, Robby, and numerous Great Grandchildren.

The Funeral service will be held on Friday, April 19, 2013 at 11am in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Hill and Rev. Dugar Strickland officiating. The burial will follow in the Peachtree Memorial Park in Norcross at 2pm with David Youngblood, Gene Bolton, Bill White, Danny Major, James Freeman and Glenn Waits honored as pallbearers. The visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
