Ray Walter Porterfield

Ray Walter Porterfield, age 61, of Mt. Airy, passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Born on July 20, 1952, in Clarke County, he was a son of the late Ernest and Doris Hill Porterfield. Mr. Porterfield was a US Army veteran and was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Porterfield was also preceded in death by a sister, Wanda Glenn Porterfield; brothers, William Douglas Porterfield, Allen Mark Porterfield; one step granddaughter; two step great grandsons; nephew, Darren Whitley.
Survivors include wife, Peggy Porterfield of Mt. Airy; daughter, LaKeeta Porterfield of Demorest; step daughter, Sabrina Canup of Turnerville; step son, Larry McMillian of Hartwell; step daughter, Tammy Renee Lance of Hayesville, NC; sisters, Diane Whitley of Arcade, Cindy Johnson of Mt. Airy, Kay Kennedy of Mt. Airy, Betty Jean Seabolt of Demorest and Pam Anderson of Cornelia; brothers, Ronald Ernest Porterfield of Clarkesville and Ernest Daniel Porterfield of Cornelia; granddaughter, Ka'Bren Porterfield; 12 step grandchildren; 14 step great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are 4:00 pm Saturday, July 27, 2013, at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Rev. Bill Trotter and Rev. Kenneth Pilcher officiating. Interment will follow in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11 am until 3:30 pm on Saturday prior to the service.
