William Clay Rodes

Obituary Date: Wednesday, July 24, 2013

William Clay Rodes, originally from Petersburg, Tennessee, passed away on July 24th, 2013 at home surrounded by his family in Gainesville, GA.



He is preceded in death by his parents James E. and Eva Dysart Rodes. He is survived by his wife Millie J. Elliott; Stepsons William E. Bell of Ridgeway, CO; Joseph M. Bell and wife Carla J. Carriveau of Alexandria, VA; Stepdaughter Mary E. Bell and her son Liam L. Elliott-Laak of Seattle, WA; Brothers William D. Rodes and wife Lolaine; James E. Rodes, Jr. and wife Lois; Stepbrothers Phillip W. Rodes and wife Sandra; Thomas A. Rodes and wife Delores; Stepsister Paula Massey and husband Mark; nieces, nephews; great nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews.



Bill is a Navy veteran of the Korean War having served six tours of duty. After military service, he worked as one of the first computer operators hired by the State of Georgia and was instrumental in implementing computer information systems throughout various departments with the State. His accomplishments included creating registration and medical research information systems for Emory University.



After retirement from the State of Georgia, Bill and Millie enjoyed exploring new locations where they bought and renovated older homes in towns they found enjoyable.



Bill was actively involved in his Navy Reunion Group where he served as President, the Druid Hills Kiwanis Club, and former neighborhood association boards. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Gainesville, GA.



The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude for the care and support given by Dr. Mark Katz, Sherry Davis,NP, Dr. Andre Kallab, the staff at Lake Lanier Dialysis and Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center, and the love and support of the many friends of the family.



A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday August 4th, 2013, at 2 pm at Little and Davenport Funeral Home in Gainesville, GA with the Rev. Byron Gibson officiating. Interment will be held at a later date with the family.
