Thomas Enoch Norton

Thomas Enoch Norton, age 84, of Mt. Airy, passed away Friday, August 16, 2013 at his residence.

Born on May 21, 1929, in Franklin County, he was a son of the late Enoch Johnson and Queen Victoria Elizabeth Cobb Norton. Mr. Norton was a self employed farmer and was a member of Community Baptist Church where he was a deacon for several years. He was also a U.S. Army veteran having served in the Korean War and was a Purple Heart recipient. In his spare time, Mr. Norton loved his family and enjoyed gardening and going to church.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Norton was also preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Mote Norton; sisters, Ruth Scott, Clara Reed and Frances Collins; brothers-in-law, Frank Reed, Clyde Scott, Arnold Collins and Roy Laprade.
Survivors include son, Tommy Norton of Mt. Airy; son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Kay Norton of Mt. Airy; daughter, Glenda Norton of Mt. Airy; brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Karen Norton of Eastanollee; sister, Betty Laprade of Demorest; six grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are 2:00 pm Sunday, August 18, 2013, at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Rev. Robert Clark and Rev. Matthew Mote officiating. Interment will follow in Community Baptist Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4 and 6-9 pm on Saturday.
