Claude Henry Marcus

Obituary Date: Friday, October 4, 2013
Funeral services for Claude Henry Marcus, age 80, of Clarkesville will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, October 6, 2013 from the Hillside Memorial Chapel. Rev. Raymond Payne will officiate with interment to follow the service in Hillside Gardens Cemetery. Firefighter Honors will be provided by Clarkesville Fire Department.

Mr. Marcus died October 4, 2013 following a period of declining health.

Born in Habersham County on February 23, 1933 Mr. Marcus was the son of the late George and Drucillar Heaton Marcus. Chief Marcus was a United States Army Veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and the Fire Chiefs Association. Chief Marcus was retired from the City of Clarkesville Fire Department. He was the Fire Chief with 35 years of loyal and dedicated service. In addition to his parents, Chief Marcus is preceded in death by brothers Junior, Houston, G. W., Charlie, James, and Tommy Marcus, and sister Maebell Marcus.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years Jean Smith Marcus of Clarkesville, daughter and son in law Donna and Anthony Lawrence of Clarkesville, son Ed Marcus and fiancé Vanessa Tribble of Cornelia, brother J. C. Marcus of Demorest, sister Mary Alice Ivester of Turnerville, as well as grandchildren Grayson Lawrence, Story Lawrence, Kira Marcus and Journee Marcus.
