William A. 'Bill' Reichert

Obituary Date: Saturday, October 5, 2013
William A. Reichert "Bill", 82 of Dahlonega, GA died Saturday October 5, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. Bill and his wife Joan moved from Alpharetta, GA to Dahlonega in 2002.

Bill was born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin October 7, 1930 to Victor and Magdalene Stoelb Reichert. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers - Richard and Robert Reichert, sister in law Alice Reichert, and nephew Rick Reichert.

Bill graduated from North High School in Sheboygan, WI in 1949, and managed his father's grocery store before he enlisted in the Army attending OCS. He served as an Officer and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. After receiving an honorable discharge from active duty he attended Marquette University graduating in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Business Administration. He worked for General Motors for 14 years as an Industrial Engineer.
Bill would tell everyone he knew that he met the love of his life, Joan in 1971. They were married in 1976.

Bill joined Waste Management, Inc., of North America in 1972 and was responsible for administering the municipal contract for the City of Milwaukee. In 1979, he was appointed Regional Vice President and responsible for a thirteen state area of the US. He and wife Joan moved the family to Columbus, OH. In 1981, he joined Waste Management International as VP of Middle East, Europe and Africa; he was appointed Mobilization Director and Resident Manager for the Public Cleansing project in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The family moved to Jeddah. In 1984, he left the project and was reassigned to work out of the London office, returning back to the corporate office in Oakbrook, IL in December 1984. Soon after he assumed position of Regional VP for the Eastern/South Central Region and he and Joan relocated to Marietta, GA. After 18 years with Waste Management, he retired in January 1990 at age 59.

He loved to travel, he loved golf, he was an avid reader and he loved his family and friends. He loved every day of his retirement years and enjoyed working, dining or just sitting outdoors in the sun. He was a quiet, simple man of few words, and loved good discussions and talk of world events. He and Joan retired here because he loved the North Georgia Mountains and spent many days driving in the mountains in his convertible, eating at local restaurants, and enjoying extended family and friends.
