James Joel Poss

James Joel Poss, age 82, of Cumming, passed away Thursday, October 17, 2013. He was a member of Cumming Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and a member of the Men's Bible Class. Joel was a loving husband, father and grandfather; he loved his Lord, family and friends.
Joel was a past president of the Forsyth County Lions Club as well as a past district officer. His club awarded him with the Melvin Jones Fellow in 1989 and he was named as a Life Member in 2008. As a member of the Lions Club, Joel had a passion for raising funds for the White Cane Project that supported the Lighthouse for the Blind. In 2013, Joel received a 35 year Service Member Chevron from the Lions Club. Joel was an active member of the LaFayette Masonic Lodge. Additionally, Joel served four years in the United States Air Force. He retired from Lockheed Martin after 38 years. Also, Joel enjoyed gardening, golf and other outside activities.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years Gloria Holland Poss of Cumming; children, Marjorie Poss, Joanne and Scott Tolleson and Suzanne and Russ Clark all of Cumming; granddaughters, Catherine, Caroline and Allison Clark of Cumming; brother and sister-in-law, J. L. "Jake" and Tommy Ann Poss of Cumming; sister-in-law Betty Orr Holland and many other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 20th at 2:30 pm at Cumming Baptist Church with Rev. Roger Williams, Dr. B. V. "Butch" Franklin, Dr. Barry Crocker and Rev. Tim Holland officiating. Interment will follow in Sawnee View Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at McDonald and Son Funeral Home on Saturday 4:30 pm until 7:30 pm and Sunday noon until 1:30 pm prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be to the Cumming Baptist Church Building Fund.
