Elizabeth Elrod Martin

Obituary Date: Wednesday, October 30, 2013
Memorial Services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Saturday November 2, 2013 at First Baptist Church for Elizabeth Elrod Martin age 94 of Gainesville. Dr. Bill Coates and Otto Toledo will officiate. A reception will follow the service. Mrs. Martin passed away Monday October 21, 2013.

Mrs. Martin was born on March 6, 1919 to the late Jack and Eva Elrod of Gainesville, GA. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Winsome Sunday School Class. She taught second grade Sunday School children for 10 years. She would celebrate their birthdays with a party and cookout at her country home. She enjoyed being a volunteer for the home bound and nursing home patients. She was a breast cancer survivor and helped to organize a Reach to Recovery Program for breast cancer patients. For many years she visited patients who had breast surgery showing them they could still live a full life after surgery. She visited patients in the hospitals and would go to their homes. She traveled as far as Dahlonega, Dawsonville and other small towns surrounding Gainesville. She delivered meals on wheels every month for 25 years. She was also a volunteer for Good News at Noon. Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years Harold T. Martin.

Survivors include Brother, Jack Elrod, formerly of Gainesville, Nephews and Spouses, Jack and Karen Elrod III, Dowington, PA, Stephen and Leigh Elrod, Raleigh, NC, Tony and Jennifer Elrod, Loganville, Weldon and Helen Palmour, Tucker, GA, Nieces and Spouses, Candee and Jeff Butler, Loganville, GA, Leigh and Eddie Yost, Greensboro, NC, Lisa and David Reid, Raleigh, NC, Penny and Mark Summers, Greensboro, NC, Marian and Hayward Hosch, Gainesville, GA, Phyllis and Edgar Bird, Spartanburg, SC, Shirley and Bobby Fleming, Spartanburg, SC Linda Svendson, Lakeland, FL, Ginger Wellden, Ft. Meade, FL, and several great nieces, nephews and many wonderful friends.

Elizabeth Martin was loved by many. Her family would like to extend a special Thank You to those who loved and cared for her, Judy Garner, The Toledo Family and Brenda Heath.
