Lylla Elizabeth Crum Bowen

Lylla Elizabeth Crum Bowen, 72, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away 12/22/13 at Lanier Village Estates, Gainesville, Georgia.

Mrs. Bowen was preceded in death by her parents Homer Preston Crum and Elizabeth Wallace Crum. She is survived by her husband of 50 years Robert C. Bowen Jr.; son and daughter in law Preston and Kim Bowen of Gainesville, Georgia; daughter and son in-law Allena and Eddie Owen of Madison, Georgia; grandchildren, Whit and Nick Bowen, Clark, Eamon, and Lucy Blair Owen; sister Julia Moreman; brother and sister in-law Bo and Barbara Crum and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Mrs. Bowen graduated from Agnes Scott College with a BA in Biology and taught in the Gainesville City School system for many years. She retired from teaching after 20 years with the Hall County Adult Learning Center.

Mrs. Bowen loved her family and especially the quality time spent with her grandchildren. She was a dedicated member of First Presbyterian Church serving as a Deacon, Elder, and Moderator of Presbyterian Women. She was a member of Dig and Sprig Garden Club, Gainesville Junior Service League and American Cancer Society. One of her passions was working in her garden and earning her certification as a Hall County Master Gardner. She was an active Board member of Gateway House, United Way of Hall County, and Northeast Georgia Speech Center where the "Lylla Bowen Scholarship" was named in her honor.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Women, 800 South Enota Drive, Gainesville Georgia 30501; Northeast Georgia Speech Center, 604 Washington Street NW Gainesville, Georgia 30501 or a charity of your choice.

A Memorial Service will be held December 28, 2013 at 11:00am at First Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends following the service at the church in Swetenburg Hall.
