Iris Machen Holmes

Funeral services for , age 92, of Clarkesville will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 28, 2013 from Hillside Memorial Chapel with interment to follow the service at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Holmes died Sunday, December 22, 2013 following a period of declining health.

Born on October 20, 1921, Mrs. Holmes was the daughter of the late Tierce and Felicia Machen. Mrs. Holmes was a graduate of Winthrop College in Rock Hill, South Carolina, having received a Bachelor of Arts degree. She was a second grade teacher in Greenville, South Carolina. In addition to being a homemaker, Mrs. Holmes was a member of Clarkesville Baptist Church where she was very active in the Women's Mission Union. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Holmes is preceded in death by her husband Rev. E. Max Holmes.

Survivors include daughter and son in law Martha H. and Daniel Tankersley of Gainesville, daughter and son in law Ellen M. and Michael Irvin of Clarkesvillle, son and daughter in law H. Max and Susan Holmes of Macon; grandson and wife Lee D. and Lizzy Tankersley of Alpharetta, grandson and wife Todd M. and Christie of Moyock, North Carolina, granddaughter Kelly I. Simmons of Toccoa, grandson Walter H. Holmes of Macon, granddaughter Stacie G. Holmes of Macon; and four great grandchildren Abby, Molly, Amber, Bradly.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, December 28, 2013 from 12:00 noon until 2:00 PM.
