Peggie Lynn Colvin Robinson

Obituary Date: Saturday, December 28, 2013

Peggie Lynn Colvin Robinson, age 61 of Gainesville, passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Gwinnett Medical Center.

Memorial services are scheduled for Friday, January 3, 2014 at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with interment to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Bruce Morgan will officiate. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 3, 2014 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, prior to the service at the funeral home.

Peggie was born in Minden, Louisiana on October 13, 1952. She was the eldest of three children born to Leonard and Peggie Colvin of Big Canoe, Georgia (formerly of Gainesville, Georgia). Due to her October birthday, Peggie enjoyed celebrating the fall season in numerous ways. Hosting elaborate Halloween parties for her children, nieces, nephews, and friends was great fun for Peggie. Even her cherished Border Collie, "Boo", was adopted and named in honor of the holiday.

Peggie's love for animals began at an early age. Her favorite pastime as a child was playing "horses" with her Aunt Nitsie. Later in life, she spent many happy hours training Boo for agility trials. She also served on the board of the Humane Society and could frequently be found at PetSmart working in the adoption center. Many dogs and cats found their way into loving homes due to Peggie's efforts.

Peggie was an avid gardener. She grew a large variety of plants including fruit trees, vegetables, botanicals, annuals, perennials, and herbs. Peggie could frequently be found relaxing with friends and family in the beautiful gardens around her home. She was an excellent cook and spent many hours canning, dehydrating foods, and creating delicious dishes with home grown ingredients.

Peggie graduated from Minden High School and North Georgia College. After graduation, she worked in the insurance industry and later became a financial advisor in partnership with her father at Merrill Lynch in Gainesville, Georgia.

In the last few years of her life, Peggie devoted her time and energy to help raise her son's girlfriend's child she loved and cherished. In her role as Nana Peggie, she found joy and happiness. In the end, she gave her life for this child. She believed that children deserve to have adults in their lives that care about them unconditionally. Her life is testimony to that belief.

Peggie is survived by her parents, Leonard and Peggie Colvin of Big Canoe, Georgia; son, Dennis Robinson of Gainesville, Georgia; son and daughter-in-law Michael and Donna Robinson of Woodstock, Georgia and their child, Dreya; sister and brother-in-law Susan and Sandy Heard of Gainesville, Georgia and their children Jennifer, Jessica, and Matthew; brother, Richard Colvin of Gainesville, Georgia and his children Tiffany and Dustin; and an extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins who loved her.
