Daphne Parks Majors

Daphne Parks Majors, 93, died on January 2, 2014, in Raleigh, NC surrounded by her children, loved ones, and caregivers. Daphne was born in Dewy Rose GA, March 27, 1920, the only child of the late Coy Cunningham Parks and Laura Skelton Parks. She attended schools in Dewy Rose, Bowman, Buford, Elberton, and Athens Georgia.

She graduated from the University of Georgia in 1941 with a B.A. in Journalism, and was an active member of Kappa Alpha Theta. She lived and worked in Athens at Michael's Department store prior to her marriage to Frank A. Majors. They made their home in Atlanta for 48 years, raising two children. An active member of St. Philip's Cathedral for 47 years, she also worked and volunteered in many capacities during her Atlanta years.

She and Frank restored and maintained a cabin in Blue Creek Community of White County, GA, beginning in 1971, and moving there in 1995. They were active members of The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, Sautee, GA. She also was a lifetime member of the White County Historical Society, serving on the Board of Directors for 7 years. She loved to farm, garden, and restore the world around her. She moved her residence to Fountain Inn, SC in 2001, becoming an active member of Holy Cross Episcopal Church, Simpsonville SC. She remained there until 2010 when she moved to Raleigh, NC, where she was active in many programs at the Magnolia Glen community.

She was predeceased by her husband of fifty years. Surviving famIly members are daughter, Carol Majors of Raleigh, NC; son, Parks Majors and his wife Linda of Fountain Inn, SC; grandson Alexander Majors of Mauldin, SC; and granddaughter Laura Willard Tucker and her husband Tom of Minneapolis, MN.

Daphne will be remembered by all who knew her as a woman of great faith who actively lived it out in service not only to her family, friends, and communities, but also to strangers who reached out to her. She gave freely of her time, talent, and treasure to those in need. The family would like to thank the Oaks at Mayview, Hospice of Wake County, her devoted caregivers, and her friends at Magnolia Glen for the loving kindness extended to Daphne during her wellness and her illness here in Raleigh.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am, Thursday, January 9, 2014, at The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, Sautee Ga., with visitation following.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to her or your favorite organizations would be preferred.
