Darrell Stewart

Darrell Stewart, 82, of Dawsonville passed away Thursday, January 9, 2014 at his residence following an extended illness.

Born December 18, 1931, in De Moines, Iowa, Mr. Stewart had been a resident of Dawsonville for the past 44 years having moved from Dekalb County. Darrell retired from the steel industry after over 55 years of service and was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict where he served on the U.S.S. Nereus, U.S.S. Randall, U.S.S. Pittsburgh and he received the Navy Occupation Service Medal. An avid golfer, he also enjoyed time with his family and sporting events of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his wife, Iris "Dinky" Stewart; father, Earl Stewart; mother, Nellie Copeland; grandfather, Albert "Gramps" Loberg; and brothers, Richard Stever and Ronald Copeland.

Surviving are his children, Patty Stewart Morton, Cleveland, Vickie and Steve Turk, Cumming, Michael "Bones" and Debbie Stewart, Cumming; brothers and sisters in law, Norman "Bud" and Marie Stewart, Lenexa, KS, Fred and Gayle Stewart, Waterloo, Iowa, Earl and Bev Stewart, Webster City, Iowa; sisters in law, Janice Stever, Flowery Branch, Debbie Copeland, Phoenix City, AL, Lola Pugh, Dawsonville; grandchildren, Trent Gilleland, Tiffany Fields, Andy and Jenny Ledford, Chris and Candice Ledford, Beth and Matthew Brown, Nathan Stewart; great grandchildren, Trevor Lingerfelt, Riley Barrett, Jaclyn Lingerfelt, Brooklyn Ledford, Drew Ledford, Grant Sarbon; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Sunday January 12, 2014 at 2 o'clock at Liberty Baptist Church. Rev. Dennis Bottoms, Rev. Rual Martin and Rev. Stephen Davis will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends after 6 p.m. Friday and all day Saturday at the funeral home.
