John M. Huggins

Obituary Date: Sunday, January 12, 2014
Funeral services for John M. Huggins, age 71, of the Batesville Community, Clarkesville will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 from the Providence Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Dotson and Mr. Steve Huggins officiating. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery with full military honors to be provided by the Georgia Military Honors Funeral Team.

Mr. Huggins died Sunday, January 12, 2014 following a period of declining health.

Born in Hoschton, Georgia on December 1, 1942, Mr. Huggins was the son of Naomi the late Wade Huggins. He served in the United States Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis and Mr. Huggins was a retired firefighter for the City of Smyrna, Georgia with 24 years of loyal service. Mr. Huggins enjoyed fishing, gardening, spending time with his grandchildren, and camping. In addition to his father, Mr. Huggins is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Jean Huggins, aunt Nan Eby, grandmother Julia Wooten, uncle Ernest Wooten, and aunt Florence Wooten.

Survivors include his mother Naomi Huggins of Clarkesville; son Alex Huggins of Clarkesville; daughter and son in law Tangie and Keith Burks of Eastonollee; daughter and son in law Tracy and Monte Osborn of Tiger; granddaughter Kelsie Burks and grandson Nicholas Burks of Eastonollee; and brothers Horace Huggins and Steven Huggins, both of Clarkesville.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 from 60:00 until 8:00 PM.
