Thomas Jarrell Bowman

Obituary Date: Monday, January 27, 2014
Thomas Jarrell Bowman, age 81, of Clarkesville, GA, died January 27, 2014, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at Hillside Memorial Chapel and Gardens in Clarkesville, GA at 2:00 PM, Friday, January 31, 2014. The Rev. Tommy Stowe will officiate with interment to follow the service in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery.
A native of Dubach, LA, born to the late George and Cora Bowman, Thomas moved to El Dorado, AR, and graduated from El Dorado High School in 1951. He majored in accounting at Southern State College in Magnolia, AR, and then served 20 years as a supply sergeant in the Arkansas Army National Guard before retiring in 1969. He joined Monsanto in 1953 at the local Lion Oil Refinery and transferred to the company's chemical plant in 1956. In 1969, he was appointed field sales representative, wholesale, in the plant foods and industrial products group of the Agricultural Division and was transferred to Albany, GA, where he continued to work with Monsanto for more than 35 years.
Thomas was a scout master with the Desoto Council area's Boy Scout Troop No. 110 in El Dorado. He also was an avid golfer, and a longtime fan and season ticket holder of the Atlanta Falcons.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Linda Gregory Bowman of Clarkesville, GA; his daughters, Dana Adkinson-Godfrey of Cleveland, GA, and Wendy Bowman of Laguna Beach, CA.; his granddaughter, Denne Adkinson of Clarkesville, GA, and future son-in-law Kevin Williams; two great granddaughters, DaLayne Adkinson-Godfrey of Cleveland, GA, and Devyn Shane Williams of Clarkesville, GA; one brother, Bob Adcox; three late brothers, Carlton, Lloyd and George Bowman; a late sister, Frances Megahan, and brother-in law Mac Megahan; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, January 30, 2014 at Hillside Memorial Chapel.
