Mildred Flanagan Thomason

Obituary Date: Wednesday, March 5, 2014

Mildred Flanagan Thomason, age 83, Mt. Airy, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at her residence following an extended decline of health.




Mrs. Thomason was born on August 3, 1930 in Franklin, NC to the late Jabel Flanagan and the late Ann Calloway Flanagan England. She was also preceded in death by her step father, William "Bill" England; son, Patrick Thomason; sister, Mary Frances Hurst; brother, Jimmy Lee Flanagan. Mrs. Thomason and family relocated to Cornelia for several years. After marriage, she, husband Bill, and their young son David, moved to Miami, FL, where they lived for forty three years. After retirement of twenty-eight years employment with Baptist Hospital, and also surviving Hurricane Andrew, she and husband returned to Georgia in 1993. Mrs. Thomason was a member of First Baptist Church of Cornelia and a member of Helping Hands Ministry. She loved God, her church family, reading, cooking, ballroom dancing and people.




Survivors include her loving and caring husband of 67 years, Bill Thomason; devoted son and daughter in law, David and Sandra Thomason, Clarkesville; two granddaughters and grandsons in law, Deborah and Kevin Thurmond, and Lisa Thomason and Robert Enders; five great grandchildren, Kevin Queen, Matthew Thurmond, Jacob Thurmond, Sara Enders, Robin Enders; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She loved and cared for her family very much. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.




Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia with Rev. Eric Spivey and Rev. David Turner officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens.




The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 pm on Friday, March 7, 2014.
