John Campbell Kollock

Obituary Date: Monday, March 10, 2014

Memorial services for John Campbell Kollock, age 85, of Clarkesville will be held Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 11:00 AM from the Grace - Calvary Episcopal Church. The Reverend Sarah Fisher will officiate and a light reception will follow the service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, March 13, 2014 from 2-4 PM and from 6-8 PM.

Mr. Kollock died Monday, March 10, 2014 at his residence.

Born on June 11, 1928 Mr. Kollock was the son of the late Macartan Campbell and Margaret Dennison Kollock. John Kollock was a storyteller. Through his words and paintings, he made it his life's work to honor the people, history, and landscape of Northeast Georgia and to preserve it for future generations. Whether he was sketching children in the Mauldin House garden or helping with the renovation of the Habersham Community Theatre, he drew joy from sharing his artistic gifts and nourishing the creative spirit in others. His art had a magical ability to inspire individuals and transform communities. In his life as in his work, he recalled and shared the feeling of living life at a gentler pace, when he knew our neighbors, shared our meals, and took time to gather at the day's end to let our cares dissolve with the setting sun.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Kollock is preceded in death by sister Ann Kollock Hamilton.

Survivors include his wife Nancy Rigg Kollock of Clarkesville; daughters and sons in law Carey Kollock Madigan and husband John Patrick Madigan, III of Clarkesville, Kathleen Kollock and husband Arthur Sherman of Williams, Oregon, and Meg Kollock Hall and husband Randy Hall of Athens; grandchildren Clara Madigan and Houstoun Hall, as well as Smudge and Camilla.
