Conni Corey Johnson

Obituary Date: Monday, March 24, 2014


Conni Corey Johnson, born October 4, 1948, passed away suddenly on March 24, 2014. Conni was born in Rochester, Minnesota to David W. and Jeanne B. Corey. She was raised in Mitchell, SD with her two loving brothers, Tim and David Corey. Conni attended the University of South Dakota where she met the love of her life, Jim Johnson. These young love birds married on June 1, 1969. Later Conni graduated from Dakota Wesleyan University with a BA in Education. Later, Jim and Conni moved south to Atlanta, GA where they started their lovely family. The Johnson family moved to Rabun County in 1978. Conni taught in both Atlanta and in Rabun County. She was an educator for more than thirty years. Conni prided herself on her family, her students, and her friends. She was a member of the St. James Episcopal Church for thirty-five years. She was also a member of Daughters of the King. Conni
was a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa teacher's sorority.

Conni is survived by husband of 45 years, James "Jim" Johnson, children, Corey Lynne Johnson DiGiovanni (Michael), James "Jamie" Carl Johnson Junior (L'Chelle), and Andrea "Annie" Leigh Johnson. Her seven grandchildren include Isabel and Grace DiGiovanni, Krista Dixon, and Jaran, Jacob, Jace, and Jaden Johnson. Additional surviving family members include brother David and family Sandy, Jill, and Maggie, brother Timothy and family Michelle, Chelsea, and Samantha. Also sharing in her life were mother-in-law Carol Johnson, sister-in-law Julie and son Jon, brother-in-law Jerry and family Lori, Lane, Lindsay, and Andy. Conni is also survived by her 4-legged children, (dogs) Molly and Burton.

Conni is preceded in death by her parents, David and Jeanne Corey, father-in-law Carl Johnson, and brother-in-law Bill Lee.

Conni was the most amazing woman, always seeing the bright side of any situation and making the best out of life.

The family will receive friends Friday, March 28, 2014, from 4:00 PM until 6:30 PM at Beck Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 PM, Friday, March 28, 2014 in the chapel of Beck Funeral Home with Father Steve Hall officiating.

In Lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in memory of Mrs. Conni Johnson be made to the Richards Kids Backpack Program providing food and assistance to Rabun County School System children, care of Richards Kids, 47 Deer Creek Trail, Clayton, GA 30525.
