Jasper June Callahan, age 70 of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at his residence following a brief illness.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 am Saturday, April 19, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church in Gainesville. The Dr. Terry Walton will officiate.
Jasper was born October 10, 1943 in Waynesville, NC, the son of the late Lee Roy Callahan and Annie (Jones) Callahan. Jasper grew up in Waynesville, NC, graduated from Waynesville Township High School and attended Montreat Anderson College. He served in the United States Army. After 30 years in sales in the grocery industry he retired but later worked for Lowes where he again retired in September of 2013.
He was a wonderful husband, father, brother and grandfather who led by example and was always there when needed.
Jasper is survived by his wife of 47 years Martha (Jones) Callahan of Gainesville; daughters, Jessica Callahan Houck (Trevor) of Lawrenceville; Kelly Callahan Chase (Jamie) of Gainesville; grandchildren, Griffin, Owen, Kendyl and Hayden; sisters, Edna Gibson of Cleveland, TN; and Marjorie Wells of Columbia, SC; brother, Roy Lewis (Bo) Callahan of Greensboro, NC.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorials may be made to Gainesville First United Methodist Church, 2780 Thompson Bridge Road Gainesville, GA 30506.
His passing leaves a void that is deeply felt by his family and friends.
