V.J. Strickland

Mr. V.J. Strickland, 78 of Clarkesville formerly of Gainesville died Monday May 26, 2014 at his residence.

Born in Forsyth County, Mr. Strickland had lived in Hall County for most of his life. he was the son of the late Julius Verna and Annie Waldrip Strickland. He had lived in Habersham County for the last 12 years. Mr. Strickland was the owner/operator of Strickland Firewood and Landscaping Company here in Gainesville for a number of years, and also worked for Gainesville Machine and had also worked with the poultry industry in Gainesville for many years. He was a member of the Sardis Baptist Church.

Survivors include his life partner, Barbara; children, Lynnette Farmer (John), Gainesville; Tony Strickland (Rhonda), Oakwood; Melvin Strickland (Patricia), Tucker and Tammy Wentzel (Scott), St. Marys, Idaho; 12 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren and still counting, sister, Virginia Pendley, Gainesville.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday May 29, 2014 in the chapel of Little & Davenport Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Hillside Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday May 28 from 7-9 p.m. and again Thursday from 1-4 p.m.
