David E. Johnson

David E. Johnson, 72, of Dawsonville passed away Monday May 26, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Born May 9, 1942 in Edison, Georgia to the late James V. and Jewel Johnson, he had lived in Dawson County for the past 17 years having moved from Cumming. Mr. Johnson was a 1962 graduate of Arlington High School and spent his career in the flexible packaging industry. In 1976, along with a partner, he opened a company called Flex-On. In 1988 he acquired SleeveCo and moved the company to Dawsonville in the mid 1990's. He was one of the founders of Chestatee State Bank and was a U. S. Army veteran. David enjoyed golfing and entertaining family and friends. In his later years he especially enjoyed his grandchildren who affectionately called him "Pop". He was also preceded in death by 5 sisters and brothers.

Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Malinda H. Johnson, Dawsonville; children, Joan and Eric Grabau, Gainesville, James Johnson, Dawsonville, Beverly and Martin Wilson, Big Canoe; grandchildren, Tyler and Drew Grabau, Lauren, Nathan and Blake Wilson; and a sister, Ora Lee Smith, Marietta.

Funeral services will be held Thursday May 29, 2014 at 11 o'clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Jim Gaines will officiate. Interment services will follow at Georgia National Cemetery at 2 o'clock.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 until 7 at the funeral home.
