Reverend J.W. Day

Rev. J.W. Day, 68, of Dawsonville passed away Wednesday June 4, 2014 at New Horizons Lanier Park following a period of declining health.

Rev. Day was born July 18, 1945 to the late Winfred and Ruby Day. He had been a resident of Dawsonville for the past 46 years coming from Forsyth County. A member of Harmony Baptist Church, Rev. Day had been a minister since 1996 during which time he served as pastor of Etowah Baptist Church. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, he owned and operated Day Contractors working in the North Georgia area. He is also preceded in death by his first wife, Patsy Grant Day; brothers, Lamar Day, Kermit Day; sisters, Christine Daniels, Leonia Day, Ethel Coffer.

Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Martha Day, Dawsonville; daughters and son in law, Paula Green, Gainesville, Tracy and Michael Powers, Gainesville; sons and daughter in law, James and Patty Day, Dawsonville, B.J. Day, Forsyth County; grandchildren, Justin Green, Josh Green, Devin Powers, Taylor Day; brother, J.R. Day; sisters, Brenda Emmett, Yvonne Cartrette, Lavader Neighbors, Montine Martin; a number of other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Sunday June 8, 2014 at Harmony Baptist Church. Rev. John Roden, Rev. C.B. Martin, Rev. Harold Evans, Rev. Butch Garrett, Rev. Tony Holtzclaw, and Rev. Joey Gilbert will officiate. Interment will follow in the Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 9 Friday and from 2 until 9 Saturday at the funeral home.
