Bernice 'Big Mama' Osborne Westbrook

Bernice Osborne "Big Mama" Westbrook, of Cornelia, passed away Monday, June 9, 2014, at Habersham Medical Center.

Born in Banks County, she was a daughter of the late George Osborne and Mary Strange Osborne. Mrs. Westbrook retired from Scovill Manufacturing as an inspector. Described by her family as a woman of character, Mrs. Westbrook stayed loyal to her family, friends, and church family by showering them with love and support. She was an active member of Cornelia Christian Church, where she was the oldest living member. In her spare time, Mrs. Westbrook enjoyed her rose garden and cooking.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Westbrook was also preceded in death by her husband, John Ruben Westbrook; son and daughter-in-law, George T. Westbrook, Sr. and Anna Laura Westbrook; sons, Bill, Dean and Dilllard Westbrook; sons-in-law, Ray Crunkleton, Benny Wood, Donald Williams, Terrell Burddette and Mac Hill; grandchildren, Danny Wood, Sharon Ann Hill and Tyler James Westbrook; great grandsons, Jonathan Dalton, Stephen Reems and Thomas Reems.

Survivors include son, Oliver Westbrook of Clarkesville; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Diane Westbrook of Cornelia; daughters, June Williams of Hartwell, Ruby Burddette of Toccoa and Mary Ann Hill of Cornelia; daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Phillip, Sr. Cody of Cornelia and Lois and Dr. Wayne Schroyer of Clarkesville; daughters-in-law, Francine Westbrook of Baldwin and Gail Westbrook of Alto; 22 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren and 22 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services are 2:00 pm on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at Cornelia Christian Church with David Terrell and Larry Westbrook officiating. Interment will follow in Nails Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Cornelia Christian Church Building Fund, 1244 - 441 Bypass, Cornelia, Georgia 30531.
