William Herbert Ramey

Obituary Date: Sunday, July 13, 2014

William Herbert Ramey, age 92, son of the late Virge and Mary Lloyd Ramey, passed away Sunday, July 13, 2014.

Herbert was born on September 29, 1921 in White County. He served his country honorably during World War II in the Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns in Company I, 104th Infantry. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Expert Infantry Badge, Combat Infantry Badge, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and the Purple Heart.

Herbert was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Adams Dean Ramey; step sons, Larry and Cecil Dean; step son-in-law, Lendy Watkins; brothers, Jack, Dewey, R.B., and Harold Ramey.

Herbert is survived by his step daughter, Carolyn Watkins; sisters, Ruth Winkler, Betty Sue Freeman, and Ruby Ravan. His special nieces and nephews and step grand and great grandchildren will remember Herbert fondly.

Funeral services will be held at Barrett Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at 11 A.M. The Rev. Andy Caldwell will conduct the services. Following the service, full military honors will be bestowed on Herbert at Duke's Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 15, 2014 from 4-8 P.M. at Barrett Funeral Home.
