Vera Davis Cantrell

Vera Davis Cantrell, age 90 of Gainesville, passed away on Friday, July 18, 2014 at her residence following a brief illness.


Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday, July 20, 2014 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with interment to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Dr. Terry Crawford will officiate. The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 19, 2014 from 7 - 9 pm at the funeral home.


Mrs. Cantrell was born July 13, 1924 in Gainesville, Georgia to the late Reverend Thomas A. Davis and Lily Jones Davis. She retired from Cornett Carpets and was a member of New Holland Baptist Church. Vera was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Jeanette Adams and her brother, Jerry Davis. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.


Mrs. Cantrell is survived by her husband of 68 years, Oliver "Mutt" Cantrell of Gainesville, daughter & son-in-law, Libby & Paul H. Grizzle, Jr. of Dahlonega, son & daughter-in-law, Brian & Frances Cantrell of Athens, Alabama, grandsons & their wives, Blake & Kim Grizzle of Dahlonega and Ryan & Kay Grizzle of Dahlonega, granddaughter & Husband, Kimberly & Jason Shehan of Somerville, Alabama, great-grandchildren, Waylan Grizzle, Thomas Grizzle, Hannah Grizzle, Haley Grizzle, Niyan Shehan, Zaylee Shehan and Kylar Shehan and brother & sister-in-law. Harold & Jo Ella Davis of Lula.


The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors of Northeast Georgia Medical Center for their care during our loved ones illness. Also the nurses and aids of Hospice of Northeast Georgia.
