James 'Jim' Brown

Obituary Date: Saturday, July 19, 2014

James "Jim" Brown, beloved husband of Maryln Brown, died at the age of 81 on July 19th, 2014.

Mr. Brown is survived by his beloved wife, Maryln; three children, Marva Griffith, James Brown, and Marcye Brown; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and his brother Bill Brown of Colorado.



Jim Brown was a native of Alexandria, VA and moved to Clarkesville, GA in 2007 during his retirement. Jim served his country as a Corporal in the U.S. Marines during the Korean Conflict where he was awarded the National Defense Service, Korean Service, Good Conduct, and United Nations Service Medals. His career included banking officer, real estate
agent and rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He attended George Washington High School in Alexandria, VA and the American Institute of Banking where he graduated with honors. His interests and hobbies included Little League umpiring, steam engine trains, stamp and coin collecting, fishing, bluegrass and classical music, photography and avionics. Jim was an active member of Fair-Park Baptist Church in Alexandria, VA where he served
as a Deacon and a Sunday School Teacher. After moving to Georgia he became a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Clarkesville, GA. He was also an active member of the Marine Corps League at Currahee Post 1301, Toccoa where he volunteered with the Toys for Tots.



Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at 11:00 AM from the Bethlehem Baptist Church. He will be laid to rest in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Hillside Memorial Chapel in Clarkesville on Monday, July 21, 2014 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.



In lieu of flowers please make donations to Toys For Tots, Pruitt Health Hospice or The Mercy Home for Boys and Girls(Chicago).
