Grover Charles Roper

Funeral services for Grover Charles Roper, age 86, of Clarkesville will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, July 29, 2014 from the Providence Baptist Church in Batesville. Rev. Tommy Lawhorn and Rev. Scott Doster will officiate with interment to follow the service in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 10:00 AM until the service hour.

Mr. Roper died at his residence on Saturday, July 26, 2014 following a period of declining health.

Born on October 18, 1927 in Columbus, Ohio, Mr. Roper was the son of the lat e Grover Charles and Rose Blackwell Roper. He was a farmer and retired bus driver for the Habersham County School System. Mr. Roper was a United States Navy Veteran, a 60 year Master Mason and a member of Clarkesville Masonic Lodge #325, F&AM. His hobbies included coaching little league baseball and watching baseball, as well as working in his garden. In addition to his parents, Mr. Roper is preceded in death by his first wife Gertrude Roper, son Charles Cleveland "Chuck" Roper, two great grandchildren, brothers Hugh Dorsey Roper and Joseph Roper, and sister Elsie Mitchell.

Survivors include his wife Marie Wood Roper of Clarkesville, daughter and son in law Dianne and Gary Dameron of Woodstock, son and daughter in law Danny and Debbie Roper of Kennesaw, sister Elvy Rita Mitchell of New Jersey, as well as seven grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
