Mary Yancy Pittard

Ms. Mary Yancy Pittard, age 96, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away Thursday, August 7, 2014.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church in Gainesville. Reverend Fred Caldwell and Reverend Kathy Lamon will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Monday, August 11, 2014 at the funeral home. Private Interment will be held at Arlington Memorial Gardens.

Ms. Pittard was born on October 2, 1917 in Monticello, Georgia, the daughter of the late Dr. Linton Yancey Pittard and Mrs. Annie Lou (Sewell) Pittard. She was a long standing member of the First United Methodist Church of Gainesville.

She was a gracious, kind Southern Lady beloved by all with whom she came into contact. She graduated top of her class from Wesleyan University. She obtained her Masters from Columbia University. She was devoted to her work and spent her life time career with the State of GA dept of Family and Children services in the child welfare division, retiring in 1974. She spread sunshine wherever she went making days brighter and hearts lighter. She will be greatly missed by all family and friends. The family sends special thanks to her wonderful care givers from Hospice Gainesville North, Dogwood Forest-Gainesville, and Home Instead-Gainesville.

Ms. Pittard was preceded in death by her parents; brothers and sisters-in-law, Linton Yancey Pittard, Jr. and Bobbie McKewn Pittard; John Sewell Pittard and Gloria Cooper Pittard; sister and brother-in-law, Sarah Anne Pittard Hayes and Don Hayes; and a niece, Nancy Pittard.

She is survived by her nephew and wife, Doug and Lauren Hayes; niece, Louanne Hayes Barry; nieces and husbands, Harriett and Jim Lockhart; Lin & Leslie Caldwell; nephew and wife, Bob and Pam Pittard; nieces and husbands, Julie and Dwight Morris; Gayle and Wayne Allen; Jeanne and Floyd Fuller; nephew and wife, John, Jr. and Denise Pittard; and a number of great and great-great-nieces and nephews also survive.
