Virginio Louis Piucci

Dr. Virginio Louis Piucci died peacefully at his home in Naperville on the 23rd of August, 2014. He was 88. He was surrounded by his family.
He was born on November 1, 1925 to Virginio and Margherita Piucci of Peekskill, NY, the youngest of eight children, all of whom preceded him in death. He had lived in Illinois since 1971.
He was a devoted husband to his wife of 63 years, Elizabeth Anne Logan Piucci; a loving father to his five sons Stephen of Portland, OR, Mark of Phoenix, AZ, Matthew, of Oakland, CA, Andrew, of Gainesville, GA and Anthony of Naperville, IL. He is also survived by his daughters-in-law, Melissa Powers, Stefanie Beltran, Michelle Mayfield Piucci and Mary McDonnell and his six grandchildren, Joseph, Nalani Ochoa and her husband Alain Ochoa), Chiara, Nicholas, Andrew and Mira. Virge loved his family deeply as he did life itself.
He was a proud Italian American and accomplished and internationally acclaimed University educator. He retired from Governors State University in University Park, IL in 1993, where he was Vice President. He received a Bachelor degree from SUNY New Paltz in 1949, a Master of Arts degree from Columbia University in 1951 and his Doctor of Education degree from the University of Florida in 1955. He taught at every level from first grade through post-Graduate studies. He served his country proudly in the US Navy during World War II.
